A National Citizen Service Programme This summer Charlton Athletic Community Trust is piloting the National Citizen Service (NCS) on behalf of the Football League Trust. The NCS is a fun, but challenging personal & social development programme, which will help you to become confident & socially active young adults. You will have the opportunity to sign up on a voluntary basis for the programme, which will run over the summer period & includes away-from-home residential experiences & a self designed social action project. Charlton Athletic Community Trust has 100 places available for 16 year olds from Greenwich & Bexley to participate in this exciting initiative. The programme lasts 7 - 8 weeks between June and September 2011 & is split into 5 phases:• Phase 1: Introductory phase – Get to know your team mates & take part in fun team building activities. (5-10 hours)• Phase 2: Full time residential programme away from your local community, with a focus on teamwork, fun, competition & outdoor physical challenges (1 week)• Phase 3: Full time residential programme based in Kent, with a focus on developing new skills & serving groups in the local neighbourhood (1 week)• Phase 4: Participants to design a social action project in consultation with the local community (1 week)• Phase 5: Onwards: 30 hours of a social action project on a part time basis; encouragement of participants to continue in social action / volunteering; a large celebration / graduation event; & an alumni programme The programme costs £50 per participant, though the Trust may be able to fund a limited number of places onto the programme, dependent on the circumstances of the individual* * NB: these will be judged on an individual basis and are dependent on the Trust securing external match funding and therefore not guaranteed.
