Personal Review: Presidential Courage: Brave Leaders and HowThey Changed America 1789-1989 by Michael R. BeschlossIn this very interesting book, author and historian Michael R. Beschlossgoes through the various times when American presidents had to maketough decisions, taking their reputations into their hands and doing whatwas best but perhaps not popular. Presidents are covered here fromGeorge Washington choosing to back the unpopular Jay Treaty, throughFranklin Roosevelts decision to help England when the country did notrecognize an enemy that needed to be fought, and on to Ronald Reagansdecision to both challenge the Soviet Union (much to the Liberals chagrin)and work towards a verifiable treaty with them (much to the Conservativeschagrin).Well, you cant please all of the people all of the time, but I must say that Iwas quite pleased with this book. I found the narrative to be quiteinteresting and informative, and I thought that the author did a good job ofshowing American presidents at their finest. I hope that presidents in thefuture continue to lead the nation, instead of just reading polls andfollowing each change of public opinion.[By the way, a great book that goes into depth on Franklin Rooseveltswillingness to take the fight to Americas unrecognized enemies is0029012708 Hitler Versus Roosevelt: The Undeclared Naval War byThomas A. Bailey and Paul B. Ryan.] For More 5 Star Customer Reviews and Lowest Price: Presidential Courage: Brave Leaders and How They Changed America 1789-1989 by Michael R.
