The Eastern Woodland people lived in the Northeastern part of the United States of America and were there for 10,000years.
They lived in Longhouses. They also lived in Wigwams .
A Longhouse was a large rectangular building with a framework of wooden poles covered with bark .
To build a Wigwam, the builder’s first job was to trace an outline on the ground .Then they dug holes along it.
More than thirty families could live in a Longhouse. Only two families could live in a Wigwam.
In the winter, men wore skirts and shirts made of buckskin from deer.
The women wore skirts woven from wild grasses and warm furs.
In summer women wore their grass woven skirts. Men wore breechcloths. The children wore nothing.
They all wore soft buckskin moccasins.
Most eastern woodlands people ate plants , berries ,fruits , and vegetables .
They ate fish, seals, corn, rabbits, and fox for food .
Salmon had to be dried and smoked before it was stored.
They hunted for deer , rabbits , and foxes.
The women took care of the crops when the men were away for hunting trips.
The Native Americans of the Northeast built Palisades to protect their village. A Palisade was kind of like a fort.
Trees were very important. they used them for houses, canoes , and palisades.
River water was used for drinking and bathing.
Grasses were pretty important for the Woodland people, too. women used them for clothes.
Women helped take care of children and crafted pottery.
The Woodlands Indians believed in spirits for every part of nature.
