Transcripts - Pop neve
Pop NeveWhat the heck is it?!
the cupboards (dont ask why) I came across a sachet labeled "Pop Neve".I tried out what it said on the "Pop Neve".packet, and I had an idea ofusing it for my homework. Imade a video recording whataffect it had. If you add waterto the white powder in thepacket, it expands and getscold. It got me to thinking...
JUST WHAT THEHECK IS IN THAT STUFF?!
This is the video I created, showing the effect of thePop Neve. Thumbs to mybrother Jack for recording
That doesnt show, however, what ingredient isadded to make that effect.Apparently the ingredients are secret, but I have a pretty good idea of what it is...
Sodium Bicarbonate.Sodium bicarbonate, or NaHCO3, orbaking soda, is a white powder which Ibelieve was added to the Pop Neve.Although after further research I foundthat the water DISSOLVES thepowder. Therefore there must havebeen another chemical added to createthe growing effect. If you added vinegarto it, well, that would cause it to bulgeand explode (Teehee). I know thatproper sodium added with water wouldcause it to explode (literally) but sodiumbicarbonate would dissolve.
But thatdoesnt answer our question!
which caused it to become sloppy and damp as seenin the video when too much water is added. It couldnt have been sodium because that explodesliterally in a dangerous way, sodium bicarbonate would dissolve, so it must be something that acts the sameway as vinegar being added to the sodium bicarbonate.
This presents a new question.
What was the chemicalcompound that was not sodium or sodium bicarbonate?
But there is some kind oftrickery with what is in thePop Neve, as it shouldnt react like that IF it was sodium bicarbonate. This is where I got an idea with the gelling agent.
What if the gelling agentcontained something to cause it to expand?
I later found that theadded chemical was... Sodium Polyacrylate. (pole-yah-krill-ate)
I searched up "fake snow" on google and came upwith a page called "How to make fake snow". Well duh.
According to the page Ifound, it is non toxic, coolto the touch and lasts for days. This must have been Pop Neve.
Thanks for watching, hope you found it interesting.
