Sentry Technology Files Operational Video Patent
Ronkonkoma, New York, December 8, 2009 -- Sentry Technology Corporation (Pink Sheets: SKVY.PK) announced
today, the filing of a U.S. patent to protect intellectual property contained in its Operational Video software platform
including OVportal™, a Software As A Service (SAAS) product.
OVportal™ is an on-line, internet browser based software application to assist retailers with real time management of
store audits, merchandising, signage, security and employee procedure compliance. The system uses video equipment
that is typically installed in most retail stores as well as traveling video systems and digital video cameras.
OVportal™ mirrors the structure of the customer such as national, regional and local management functions. Mirroring
the corporate structure allows easy organization of online viewing, recording and retrieving of video images that support
the way the business functions. Corporate managers have full viewing rights across all divisions, regional managers have
the ability to view a certain group of stores and the local managers have viewing rights for a single facility only.
Effective structuring of the video viewing system to allow segmentation by business unit, management function and job
task is done via password control through a rights access system. Vendors that supply the retailer can also be given
access to OVportal™ for the purpose of managing merchandise displays, signage and pricing. Online management
eliminates the need for physical audits, dramatically cutting costs and improving efficiency.
Electronic audits are performed via the system Audit Engine™. A manager posts a reference image of an approved
product display to the Audit Engine™ for comparison with online images viewed in the store. The video auditor answers
simple questions about the comparison of the two images and an exception report is automatically prepared for the
manager who requested the audit so that immediate corrective action can be taken as required. While the Sentry
SmartTrack™ traveling camera system is ideal for this application; OVportal™ operates with any video system.
“More than 100 stores were installed with OVportal™ as part of our effort to develop a market leading product,” said
Peter L. Murdoch, President and CEO of Sentry Technology Corporation. “Compliance audits via on-line video will be a
standard procedure used by most retailers in the future and our market ready OVportal™ system offers several unique
features that will gain Sentry a share of this important market segment.”
