Career Objective: HR Generalist I have always been keenly aware of unfairness in the world. Maybe it’s because I am the middle child of three. At 18, I realised I could turn it into a career. Once I dined at a nearby restaurant with my family and saw how the manager scolded his staff publicly. When my school gave us a project to improve a local business, I immediately chose the same restaurant. We interviewed the staff and management and I saw first hand how HR policies and skills could improve productivity and service. Fortunately, the manager agreed with our findings and changed his behaviour for the better. That’s when I knew that a career as a HR Generalist was for me. Matriculated 2011, with 80%+ average (including Afrikaans as additional first language) First team hockey for three years. It taught me teamwork, good sportsmanship, tolerance, goodwill, and how to strategise. Education B. Comm, Industrial Psychology (Cum Laude) and Golden Key Holder. Financial Management as a second major. Currently completing Bcom Honours in Industrial Psychology Work and skills 2009-2011 Tutored young learners in Afrikaans, Mathematics and English. 2013 Vacation work at AVI. AVI is home to 86 brands, including Five Roses tea, Bakers biscuits, Lavazza coffee I&J fish products, Yardley and Lacoste. I did reference checks for CVs, handled student vacation work scheduling, and designed placement adverts for them. 2014 Vacation work for Orange Recruiting, a placement and recruitment agency. I sourced CVs using PNet, LinkedIn and Career Junction, and also spent time interviewing candidates. Vacation work over December 2014 and January 2015 at Tiger Brands in the HR Department. A highlight was a visit to the Albany bread factory which helped me understand the business much better. 2015 Now that I’m doing Honours HR Management, I am a part-time student assistant to Mr Van der Bank, a lecturer in Psychometrics. This year I helped mark first-year assignments. I also helped create a workbook for the second year BCom Psychometric students. During university vacations I have worked in recruitment, in HR Admin and in learning design — all towards gaining broad experience in HR. I have also made sure that I am completely computer literate.

My short term goal is to either spend six months in a recruitment position, or to start at a medium to large corporate in the HR department. In particular, I need more experience in Talent Management and Learning and Development.
