The Hashemite kingdom of Jordan

The part of the Holy Land on the eastern side of the Jordan River, in the country of Jordan, is blessed with the rich spiritual heritage of the full story of Salvation as recorded in the Bible. The Biblical history of Abraham, Moses, Jesus Christ, Paul and other leading figures from the Bible is found etched in the ancient landscape now within the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan

Riddle:

What is

the Earth's lowest point not covered by ice , at 1371 feet below sea level

the deepest hypersaline p lace in the world, at 330 m (1083 feet) deep,

being 8.6 times greater than average ocean salinity?

Dead Sea is the Earth's lowest point

Without doubt, the world’s most amazing

place, the Jordan Rift Valley is a dramatic,

beautiful landscape, which at the

Dead Sea, is over 400 meters (1,312 ft.)

below sea level. The lowest point

on the face of the earth, this vast, stretch

of water receives a number of incoming

rivers, including the River Jordan.

Once the waters reach the Dead Sea they are land-locked and have nowhere to go, so they evaporate, leaving behind a dense, rich, cocktail of salts and minerals that supply industry, agriculture and medicine with some of its finest products .

Who can tell me why is The Dead Sea called Dead?

It's called the Dead Sea because nothing lives in it. It is some of the saltiest water anywhere in the world, almost six times as salty as the ocean!

The Dead Sea is completely landlocked

and it gets saltier with increasing depth. The surface, fed by the River Jordan, is the least saline.

The Dead Sea is flanked by mountains to the east and the rolling hills of Jerusalem to the west, giving it an almost other-worldly beauty. Although sparsely populated and serenely quiet now, the area is believed to have been home to five Biblical cities: Sodom, Gomorrah, Adman, Zebouin and Zoar

The curative properties of the Dead

Sea have been recognized for over

2000 years ago.

The Dead Sea is 80

kilometres(50 miles) long,

approximately 14 kilometers

(9 miles) wide.

The northern and larger part is

very deep , reaching at one point a depth of 430m (1320 feet).

The southern bay is, on the contrary, very shallow, averaging hardly a depth of 4m (13 feet).

The water level of the Dead Sea is dropping by about a 30cm (1 foot) per year. It is being diverted by Israel and Jordan for industry, agriculture and household use. Scientists predict that the sea may be dried up by the year 2050.

Dead sea and history

Around three million years ago what is now the valley of the Jordan River , Dead Sea, and Wadi Arabah was repeatedly inundated by waters from the Red Sea . The waters formed in a narrow, crooked bay which was connected to the sea through what is now the Jezreel Valley. The floods of the valley came and went depending on long scale climatic change.

According to geological theory, approximately two million years ago the land between the Rift Valley and the Mediterranean Sea rose to such an extent that the ocean could no longer flood the area. Thus, the long bay became a long lake.

The Dead Sea: A world famous treasure- trove of health and beauty since antiquity, the Dead Sea is gift from nature .

R ich in life-enhancing minerals,

the Dead Sea waters and mud

have been acclaimed throughout the ages. This unique body of

water is situated on the Syrian-

African fault, a geological phenomenon that came into being some three million years ago during a great natural upheaval. Many ancient layers of mineral-rich earth were exposed. Salt water springs erupted, forming a valley and a lake 400 meters (1300 feet) below sea level, making it the lowest place on earth.

One of the most spectacular natural and spiritual landscapes in the world, the Jordanian east coast of the Dead Sea has evolved into a major hub of both religious and health & wellness tourism in the region. A series of good roads, excellent hotels with spa and fitness facilities, as well as archaeological and spiritual discoveries make this region as enticing to today’s international visitors as it was to kings, emperors, traders, prophets and pilgrims in antiquity.

The Dead Sea Mud is world renowned for Health & Wellbeing Spa at the Dead Sea.

These visitors soak in the famous waters and coat themselves in the celebrated revitalizing black mud. Medical research and multiple studies have proved beyond all doubt the efficacy of these minerals in treating and preventing various diseases such as psoriasis, acne, and rheumatism. As in the past, the Dead Sea continues to attract tens of thousands of visitors annually to its many resorts and treatment spas.

Who can tell me why the Dead sea is so salty?

An evaporation process continuing for thousands of years resulted in increased levels of minerals and salt in the lake, which is known as the Dead Sea.

The composition of the Dead Sea is considered unique, containing the highest levels of magnesium, calcium, silica, sodium, and potassium in comparison to any other body of salt water in the world, including the oceans.

Since ancient times, millions of people have come to the region to relax, to enjoy its beauty and to experience the healing, beautifying, and rejuvenating powers of the Dead Sea.

Dead Sea Essentials

The essence of vitality, health and beauty, the Dead Sea abounds with the renewing powers of Nature, drawn exclusively from its mysterious, life-giving waters.
