A well-regarded real estate agent, Nadin Samnang isalso a dedicated athlete who has enjoyed great successas a soccer player. In recognition of his impressivecontributions to the sport, Nadin Samnang was namedPlayer of the Year by the National Capital SoccerLeague. Moreover, as a top national player, NadinSamnang was chosen to play on the OlympicDevelopment Team.
The National Capital Soccer League is the regionalleague for soccer-playing youth based in theWashington, D.C., Maryland, and Northern Virginiaarea. Affiliated with various other soccer associations,including the Major League Soccer Club, US YouthSoccer, and others, the league was founded in 1965.
Like most youth soccer leagues, the organization’ssystem is divided by age and gender. Teams play eachother in the league and may be promoted accordingly inorder to play against teams in other, higher-rankedleagues. For example, the top-performing boys’ teamsmay play in the Regionals 1-League or The USL SuperY-League. Fostering fun, healthy competition, andathleticism, the National Capital Soccer League is animportant part of the local community.
The Olympic Development Team is a component of theUS Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program.Begun in 1977, the group attempts to identify playersthroughout the nation with the most athletic talent andpotential. Its goal is to increase successful performanceamong U.S. teams competing on the international level.The players chosen for the team receive rigorous andadvanced training, as well as personal coaching fromcarefully selected and highly qualified coaches.
Players are selected in open tryouts, which areconducted by state associations. Some of theassociations utilize scouting techniques to identify high-potential players and invite them to participate intryouts. During tryouts, players are evaluated fortechnique, tactics, fitness, and athletic ability.
Selection to the team is considered an honor. It reflectsrecognition not only of a player’s talent, but also agenuine commitment to the sport, athleticaccomplishment, and self-discipline.
