Leadership: I am currently leading a team of young men for a football team, I am the U14s manager, and
in my role I have learnt key leaderships, time management, man management and discipline. I also led a
team of student ambassadors. I ensured each member worked and behaved in a professional manner
and performed to the best of their ability. I also allocated their roles and scheduled their time. I was given
positive feedback from senior college staff on my performance as a supervisor. At secondary school, I
was a house leader, and captain of the football team leading in two-cup finals. I always listened to the
concerns of each member and took care of individuals in my team as I found that this improved their
performance. In addition I deliver workshops and training sessions for youngsters to build their
confidence and skills via my role with loop and the coaching role.
Communication: Communication is a vital attribute in coaching: this role has developed my
communication skills which has helped me deliver effective training sessions to the kids. From my recent
telephone advice line role my confidence in dealing and speaking to people regarding a range of issues
has sky rocketed and it has become one of my strongest assets. As a student ambassador I was asked
to assist prospective student at events, by giving clear instructions and by listening to their questions. I
translated for some applicants, and helped with filling out of application forms. Many applicants were not
fluent English speakers so I was required to be patient and very clear when dealing with them. A number
of those students I helped gave positive feedback about my service to my supervisor.
Team player: As a committee member, I have learnt to respect different ways of thinking, learnt how to
gather ideas and how to put ideas into practice. During my time at my local football team Newark Youth, I
was asked by the coach to play in a position I was not best suited to. However I recognised that I was
required to be versatile and do my best for the greater good of the team. This enabled me to understand
how every individual needs to contribute to a greater collective goal. Working in different types of teams
from sports to organising committees has given me valuable transferable skills.
Selected for the Young Leaders Exchange Program with the American Embassy for a two-week

student, I was chosen to participate despite my age. I was chosen out of 60 applicants. This
program aims to improve leadership qualities, communication and networking skills.
