My clients in- clude both multinational clients, from various industries, and some of the largest clients in the UAE. Responsibilities • Preparation of tax due diligence reports, including cases where the target has operations in over- seas jurisdictions. • Undertake comparison between setting up a company in Free Trade Zones vs Mainland UAE, and advise multinational companies on the most efficient location for their operations. • Advise and assist multinational companies with establishing a company in the Free Trade Zones in the UAE. • Assist with international tax advisory work, primarily focusing on potential permanent establish- ment risks and the application of tax treaty benefits in a number of jurisdictions, including the UK, Qatar, Oman and Bahrain. • Preparation of customs duty advice covering the GCC countries. • Advising clients on the developments of both VAT and Corporate Income Tax in the UAE. Achievements • Being the lead tax adviser on a recent large tax due diligence, acting as the main point of con- tact not only with the client but also in discussions with the advisers of the other parties to the transaction.

March 2010 - August 2014: Ernst & Young Kuwait City, Kuwait Tax Consultant – Business Tax Services Responsibilities • Manage a portfolio of over 50 clients, including a number of Global accounts and reporting directly to the respective tax partner on a number of assignments. • Work closely with the other departments within EY to manage client’s tax compliance and advisory needs and to ensure consistent high standards. • Responsible for the planning and undertaking of a significant number of tax audits. • Preparation/ review of corporate annual tax declarations and other quarterly tax reports. • Preparation/ review of NLST and Zakat declarations. • Review of tax assessments raised on my clients to determine whether it is in their best interest to object or appeal against said assessment. This will include a detailed analysis of the potential reasons for objecting/ appealing. • Preparation of objection/ appeal letters. • Regular attendance of Tax Appeal Committee meetings and participation in discussions with the Heads of the Kuwait tax authority. • Conduct analysis on a number of tax advisory matters, particularly in relation to the retention requirements in Kuwait and Permanent Establishment. • Analyse, and advise on, documentation in tax due diligence assignments. • Manage tax controversy affairs with the Kuwait tax authority to defend the tax positions taken by my clients in Kuwait and to explain the technical rationale behind such tax positions. • Delegate effectively and efficiently to junior members of the team both to enhance their skills and knowledge as well as for the continuing benefit to the firm. • Review of junior team members’ work, advising, mentoring and providing constructive critiques. • Regular reviews of engagement codes and ensure that billings are issued and collected on a regular and timely basis. • Lead presentations to my colleagues, on a regular basis, with regard to Zakat & NLST, and actively participate in presentations to clients. • Adhere to Quality & Risk Management standards. • In charge of the team that is responsible for the translation and review of all documents, into Arabic, before being submitted to the Kuwait tax authority, such as tax declarations, objection and appeal letters. Achievements • Promoted from Associate to Tax Consultant in October 2013. • I have built a strong rapport with the tax inspectors at the Kuwait tax authority. My careful handling of the tax inspection process has directly led to a number of highly favourable tax assessments for my clients. • Voted ‘the employee who is highly career oriented’ within the tax department. • I am the first point of contact for a majority of clients and colleagues, with regard to NLST and Zakat matters. • My strong work ethic has been recognised by my clients, having received a number of notes of thanks, as well as my colleagues. • My hard work and dedication was immediately noticed when I joined Ernst and Young as I earned a promotion within six months of joining.
