Tri-Town News – October 14, 2010Actor Chris Mulkey to appear at Manalapan film festivalMANALAPAN — The Manalapan Arts Council will host a gathering of independent film artists,moviegoers, industry professionals and community members on Oct. 16-17 when the ManalapanIndependent Film Festival makes its debut in town.The event, slated to take place at the Manalapan municipal complex, 120 Route 522 (at TaylorsMills Road), will feature screenings of 18 short films ranging in visual style and subject matterand created by independent filmmakers from New York, New Jersey and Philadelphia.Workshops will also be conducted to offer advice for those with an interest in the film industry.Industry professional judges will critique the work, and awards will be presented in a variety ofcategories.The judges include Chad Dell, chairman of the Radio/TV Communications department ofMonmouth University; Rachel Burkhardt, teacher of visual arts at the Freehold RegionalPerforming Arts Center (FPAC); Doug Seidel, filmmaker and president of Justice Productions, afilm production house; Marla Cukor, president of Rant Films, a New York-based writer-for-hirecompany, as well as the vice president of the New Jersey Screenwriters Network; ChadAnderson, faculty instructor of Media Communications at Brookdale Community College; andJan Zachary, coordinator of the Manalapan Township Television Network.The judges will pre-screen the films and grade each one on various aspects of filmmaking,including screenwriting, direction, camera work, editing and overall quality of the film, bothfrom a technical and aesthetic standpoint.The event will feature an appearance by actor Chris Mulkey. Mulkey, having appeared in morethan 70 feature films and 80 television shows spanning a nearly fourdecade career, is one of thestars of “Bare Knuckles,” a feature-length film that is slated to be screened at the film festival at6 p.m. Oct. 16.Festival attendees will recognize Mulkey as one of the stars of the HBO miniseries “BrokenTrail,” which also stars Robert Duval. Mulkey has also appeared in the films “First Blood,” “TheFan” and “Cloverfield,” to name a few. His television appearances include a recurring role on
