Transcripts - Press Release â€" EASTER A
17th March 2008Press Release – EASTER A&E Services/Emergency DepartmentStockport PCT and Stockport NHS Foundation Trust are encouraging Stockportresidents to access the right healthcare treatment over the Easter break.Stepping Hill Hospital is very busy at present with increased numbers of peopleattending the department. Both Trusts would like to remind patients to only go to theEmergency Department (formerly Accident & Emergency) if they have a genuineemergency or have had an accident. Most people using A&E genuinely need its services. However, there are quite a fewpeople who turn up with everyday ailments who should, in fact, see their GP, thelocal GP out-of-hours service (Mastercall) or access NHS Direct for assistance. Highnumbers of these patients sometimes creates unnecessary delays in the department. Many everyday illnesses can be managed easily at home, with remedies bought overthe counter or advice is freely available from pharmacists and NHS Direct.Richard Popplewell, Chief Executive of Stockport PCT said “Especially with Eastercoming up we would encourage patients to see or call their GP if they have anyminor illnesses rather than attend the A&E department at Stepping Hill which is reallyfor emergency problems” ENDS
