Price of Honor: Muslim Women Lift the Veil of Silence on the Islamic World, Newly updated by Jan Goodwin NlA look at the treatment of Muslim women in the Islamic world describesthe increasing repressive politics that govern their personal lives and howthey are confined, isolated, and even killed to protect male honor. 25,000first printing. $25,000 ad/promo.Although this was set in the aftermath of the Gulf War (so a bit outdated),Jan did one of the most amazing jobs in conveying the message of IslamicFundamentalism, the impact not only on the country and its people buttowards women. It was done factually based on her own experiences, full of informationabout the country and real interviews.
Im an American based in the middle east and although there has beengreat progress (specifically in the Gulf region), you can still see the impactof a decade ago (and more) and ideals that are so deeply ingrained intradition. What Jan has done is created a very neutral view in my eyes.... one thatsimply conveys information and allows the reader to determine wherehe/she is going. The country by country journey was remarkable and appreciated.I didnt want the book to end.Jan, thank you for such a well written book..... I so wish you were able torewrite this with new experiences in each of these countries so long afterthe Gulf War.
