Meeting the needs of developing countries Why give aid? Think of 2 reasons why a Govt. would give aid. AID Bilateral Aid Multilateral Aid Voluntary Aid Aid given from 1 country to another Scotland to Malawi Aid given from an International Org - UN/EU Aid given from a Charity - Oxfam
Reason 1 – Richer countries may feel a responsibility to help poorer countries. Reason 2 – Richer countries may give Tied Aid – aid with conditions attached. Reason 3 – Richer countries may give a Loan – Receive more back with interest. Reason 4 – Richer countries Governments may want to look good to voters. Give 2 reasons why European countries benefit from Giving aid to African Countries. (KU 4)
The United Nations Describe, in detail, the ways in which UN aid helps to meet the needs of some African Countries. (KU 4) World Health Organisation Food and Agricultural Organisation UNICEF Trains local people to become health care workers. Also works to eliminate diseases such as malaria by making people aware of how to avoid it. Works with local farmers in order to improve the methods they use. Also introduces new farming techniques and equipment. Funds projects for schools, teachers and equipment. Also funds projects so that infants can be vaccinated against killer diseases such as measles or TB.
