Napier Parking – How to change the oil in acarChanging the oil in your car is a relatively simple way to keep your car running efficiently. Ifthis task is neglected, the engine can become damaged over time, so it’s worth taking a half anhour or so, every few months to do this. The first thing you’ll need to do is to gather the requiredtools. These include a socket or box end wrench, which will be used for removing the drain plug,as well as clean oil, a new filter, an oil drip pan, and some paper towels. Before you begin, drivethe car for a short while, then turn off the engine and allow it to cool for a minimum of 15minutes. This allows the oil to warm up slightly so that it will flow better, and also ensures that itdrains back down to the bottom of the engine.Napier Parking – Oil being drained from a GMC Sport Utility VehicleThe drain plug will usually be located at the engine’s lowest point, where you’ll find a boldwhich doesn’t secure any other parts. Position the pan for the oil under this bolt, and use thesocket or the box end wrench to remove it. Once the oil begins to drain, you can move on to theoil filter; twist it to the left, and unscrew it completely from the engine. After the filter has beenloosened, it will be dripping with oil, so remember to tip it towards the engine as quickly as youcan. Apply some clean oil to the fresh filter’s gasket, and twist the filter into place. Next, you’llneed to replace the drain plug, as tightly as possible. Finally, look for the oil fill port, located onthe front of the engine (there will normally be a cap with an oil symbol or the word itselfstamped on it). Fill the engine with the specified amount of oil, using a funnel if you need to.
