PRESS RELEASE Fatal Hit and Run Traffic Collision Gardena Police Department seeks the public’s assistance in identifying a hit and run driverOn August 20, 2011 at 9:04 pm, Gardena Officers responded to a call of a vehicle vs pedestriantraffic collision on Rosecrans Ave, between Budlong Ave and Normandie Ave. Upon theirarrival, Officers found a female Asian adult lying on the street with severe injuries. Los AngelesCounty Fire Department Paramedics responded and immediately transported the female toHarbor UCLA Medical Center, where she succumbed to her injuries.Preliminary investigation revealed that the female was crossing Rosecrans Ave and was struck bya vehicle traveling westbound. After the collision the driver fled the scene. Witnesses havestated the driver had been driving erratically prior to the collision and after colliding with thepedestrian continued driving at a high rate of speed. The vehicle is described as 2000-2001Honda Civic or Accord 4-door gray in color with tinted rear windows. As a result of thiscollision, it has damage to the left front and driver’s door mirror is missing. Witnesses havedescribed the driver as male Hispanic adult, 25-30 years of age, short or shaved hair, andmedium to heavy build. There were also at least two passengers in the HondaThe Gardena Police Department is asking the public’s assistance in identifying the driver of theHonda. If anyone has any information or witnessed the collision, please call Investigator VictorGomez, Gardena Police Department Traffic Bureau, at 310 217-6135 or 310 217-6183.The Gardena Police Department is urging the driver of the Honda to do what is right and contactus.The name of the female pedestrian is has been withheld pending notification of next of kin.Case #TF11-5046 Service with Pride and Professionalism
