Learning Objective Integration of Knowledge and Ideas Student will compare and contrast the most important points and key details presented in two texts on the same topic (according to NYS common core standards).The students will gather information about Abraham Lincoln and George Washington and compare and contrast both presidents.
Abraham Lincoln: 16th President• Born February 12th, 1809.• He was born in Kentucky and then moved to Indiana.• When his family moved to Illinois in 1830, he was a shoekeeper, postmaster and a general store owner.• He began his political career in 1834.
The Greatest of All American Presidents• He was elected state legislature and supported the Whig Party.• This helped him with his views on slavery.• He decided to become a lawyer.• Lincoln served a single term in the U.S House of Representatives from 1847- 1849.
Lincoln’s Presidency• Joined the Republican Party in 1856.• He was inaugurated in 1861.• Lincoln was assassinated in 1865.

George Washington: 1st President• Born February 22nd, 1732.• He was born in Virginia.• He taught himself to be a woodsman, mapmaker and surveyor.• He was the first president of the United States.
The First President• He was elected into the House of Burgesses in Virginia in 1758.• He was Commander of Chief of the Colonial Army in 1775.• Elected president in 1789 and 1792.• He did not want to be president for a third term.
Washington’s Presidency• He was president from 1789-1797.• The Bill of Rights was adopted.• Washington, District of Columbia was named in his honor.• He died in 1799.
