Subject: Girls Like Us first graduation ceremony
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – After six exciting weeks filled with exercise and fun, thirty 11 to 12 year
old girls will be participating in the first Girls Like Us graduation ceremony.
For the past weeks, these young ladies learned that being active, fit and confident is beautiful.
The program encourages girls to join their peers for one hour on Saturday at Gainesville Health
and Fitness For Women for a series of enjoyable exercises fit to any girl’s needs in a fun filled
atmosphere. The classes involve an assortment of exercises, such as Zumba, hip hop, yoga /
stretch, Pilates mat, sports conditioning an lastly the “girls choice.”
Mindy Miller, communication director at GHFC, said the final step of the six week program,
which is the graduation, is an important step to congratulate the girls on their accomplishments
and hard work. “These girls did such a great job these past weeks and we couldn’t be happier
with how everything went,” said Miller.
The program is dedicated to motivate young ladies to beating the statistics on health related
issues and creating a strong emotional foundation within each girl. According to Fitness Gov.,
obesity triples for children between 12 and 19 years old.
The graduation ceremony takes place on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at 7 p.m. at Gainesville Health
and Fitness For Women. Guest who show up early will have the opportunity for better sitting and
parking. Photographic opportunities will be available during the ceremony as well as after.
The program will continue with a new set of faces starting Saturday, April 12, 2014.
