Examples of ‘Pop’ Music Magazines.
Common features of a ‘Pop’ music magazine:-
Bold Masthead situated at the top of the page, either centrally aligned or to the left of the page.
Main feature artist dominating
the cover, looking directly at
the camera and so creating a
direct mode of adress. Also, the
name of the artist is printed in
a large font next to the photo.
This example subverts the
stereotypical cover image of
one artist or band, by using two
different artists and presenting
Coverlines surrounding the
main image, advertising
content which can be found
within the magazine.
Puffs advertising content within
Content unrelated to the music
of the artist, such as their
personal life – rarely found in
any other genre of music magazine.
Covermounts, also uncommon with other music genres.
Footers, which are the same in every edition and highlight the general content of the magazine.
Barcode, website, date and price, printed in small print so as not to gain the reader’s attention and
waste space which could be used for promotion.
