Calgary Arts Academy Presents
Calgary, Alberta, January 20, 2009: On Tuesday, January 27th
, 2009, Calgary Arts Academy will be hosting
a special campus-wide literacy event to celebrate Family Literacy Day and to promote writing as one of the
five fine arts. The event is called WordaPalooza and will be “A Day of Authors” and “A Day of Writing”
for all students at Calgary Arts Academy’s Glenmeadows Campus. This event will give students an
opportunity to meet with Canadian authors and to work on individual writing projects.
6 guest literary artists have been booked for this event and will be conducting writing workshops for students.
Guest authors include Kim Palmer, Jared Blackwell, Michael Brenner, Straja Linder King, Lorna Schultz
Nicholson and Merlin Thompson.
Each of these guests will be conducting three writing workshops for students throughout the day.
This special day will start with an assembly at 9:20am where these literary guests will be introduced. Parents
and the press are invited to attend the introductory assembly.
A special assembly that celebrates this event and the literary arts will end the day. Following the assembly, the
authors will be available in the gymnasium to autograph books. Parents and the press are invited to attend the
assembly at the conclusion of WordaPalooza from 2:15 – 3:00pm.
