Since 1974, the NACHA Operating Rules and Guidelines have provided the foundation for the
exchange of ACH payments. NACHA as an organization develops, administers, and governs the
ACH Network. The NACHA Rules and Guidelines define the roles and responsibilities of financial
institutions and other participants in the ACH Network, and ensure that the ACH Network
remains efficient, reliable, and secure for the benefit of all participants. It is the responsibility of
the member financial institutions to ensure they are in compliance with the guidelines NACHA
has set forth.
