U.S. CONSUMER PRODUCT SAFETY COMMISSION LAUNCHES INVESTIGATION
AFTER NEWSCHANNEL 5 REPORT
CLEVELAND – A NewsChannel 5 investigation exposing a microwave that turns itself on captured the
attention of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.
NewsChannel 5 cameras recorded a microwave turning on by itself on three separate occasions over the course
of three days. The findings were submitted to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, which promptly
launched an investigation into the faulty microwaves.
“One of NewsChannel 5’s many strengths is reporting that gets results, and nowhere is this more prevalent than
in our investigative unit,” said Jill Manuel, News Director of NewsChannel 5. “Whatever action the CPSC
decides to take, it will be in part of Ron’s report.”
“When I saw the microwave turn itself on, something needed to be done,” said investigative reporter Ron
Regan. “It’s my responsibility to use the resources of NewsChannel 5 to document the problem and get a
constructive response. I believe the Consumer Product Safety Commission will conduct a full investigation.”
This is one example of how the NewsChannel 5 investigative unit continues to lead the way in solving
problems. NewsChannel 5 is the only station in Northeast Ohio with an entire team dedicated to raising issues
and getting results.
