- 2. What is Kinetic Energy?The word "kinetic" is derived from the Greek wordmeaning to move, and the word "energy" is theability to move. Thus, "kinetic energy" is theenergy of motion --its ability to do work. The fasterthe body moves the more kinetic energy isproduced. The greater the mass and speed of anobject the more kinetic energy there will be.
- 3. HistoryMany people contributed to the discovery of kinetic energy, most notably, Isaac Newton. The energy was discovered by mathematically analyzing equations derived from Newtons Laws.
