What is Kinetic Energy?The word "kinetic" is derived from the Greek wordmeaning to move, and the word "energy" is theability to move. Thus, "kinetic energy" is theenergy of motion --its ability to do work. The fasterthe body moves the more kinetic energy isproduced. The greater the mass and speed of anobject the more kinetic energy there will be.
HistoryMany people contributed to the discovery of kinetic energy, most notably, Isaac Newton. The energy was discovered by mathematically analyzing equations derived from Newtons Laws.
Mathematical Equation Kinetic energy is defined as one-half of the particle’s mass times the square of its velocity: Ek = (1/2) m v2Ek = Kinetic Energym = Massv = Velocity
