MEDIA ADVISORYFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE MEDIA CONTACT:October 5, 2012 Gretchen Larson 832.392.2546 email@example.com VOLUNTEERS TO PLANT ORCHARD IN ALIEF COMMUNITY GARDENWHAT: Orchard Planting at the Alief Community GardenWHO: Volunteers from the Alief community, Alief Super Neighborhood and International Management District, and representatives from Dreyers Fruit BarsWHEN: Saturday, October 13 at 11:00 a.m.WHERE: Alief Community Garden, Beechnut at Dairy Ashford .Thirty citrus fruit and pecan trees are being presented to the Alief Community Garden and Tree Farmas a result of nearly 28,000 votes from Alief residents in the Dreyers Fruit Bars Communities TakeRoot competition."I think the best part was that it really was a community effort," said Barbara Quattro, who serves onthe International Management Districts Community Development Committee and is also the chair ofthe Alief Super Neighborhood."Trees help all of us. For years to come, people will benefit from the fruit of this orchard and it willbear witness to what weve done," Quattro said. Along with the 500 trees in the Alief tree farm, theDreyers orchard will play a small part in helping to replenish Houstons green canopy that wasdevastated in the drought of 2011."Anytime you plant a tree is the right time," she said. "And who knows? Maybe people will see usplanting trees and be inspired to plant trees at their own homes." ###About the International Management District: The International Management District was createdby the Texas legislature in 2007 at the request of State Representative Hubert Vo. It encompassesapproximately 12 square miles of Southwest Houston, a portion of adjacent Harris County and a smallportion of Fort Bend County. The District is administered by an 11 member all-volunteer board ofdirectors. Its mission is to enhance the physical, social and economic well-being of the community.
The District is empowered to finance projects related to public safety, mobility and transportation,environmental and urban design, and business and economic development.
