diploma 2012 medical laser design
1 defining usability problems Medical laser design is a result of extensive research including exploratory interviews, participant observations and interviews with representatives of the medical, users and producers of medical equipment. The aim of this research was to verify whether the existing solutions meet the needs of users and create problems to be solved. The conclusion was that devices available on the market do not meet the design assumptions Analysis of collected data allowed to formulate design assumptions: - organizing the work space; - housing enabling easy development of electronics in order to increase the usability of device (modularity); - minimizing tangled wires; - versatility and ease of use; - ergonomic probes; real users needs and in many cases are not - easy to clean; suitable for medical centres. - modern aesthetics emphasizing the Observed usability issues mainly concerned: technical advancement of the device. - poor use of work space (lack of space for accessories, docks for probes); - safety requirements (lack of space for safety glasses, wrong labeling); - tangled wires.diploma 2012

First concepts shown did not meet the assumptions of ergonomics and required changes. Evolution of form of probles led to the concept of probe with circular cross section, since this one was the most comfortable one. The design of the probe alluded to other elements of the project. The probes have been designed for right and left-handed users.
